Translating for a Young Audience: Techniques Used to Render Jokes, Puns and Songs into Polish in Selected Disney Motion Pictures

dc.abstract.en	The essay Translating for a Young Audience: Translation Techniques Used to Render Jokes, Puns and Songs in Selected Disney Motion Pictures is focused on the Polish translation of songs, jokes and puns from a selection of Disney productions. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that when translating for a young audience, translators opt for techniques which allow them to keep the skopos of the original, and show what specific techniques are used to achieve this goal. Hence the theory devised by Vermeer and Reiss is referred to in the essay. The translation techniques are discussed taking advantage of Krzysztof Hejwowski (2015) terminology. The essay examines how each technique influences the mental representation in the mind of a viewer from the target culture, keeping in mind the nature of audio-visual translation and the fact that the target group of Disney productions mostly consists of young viewers.
dc.abstract.pl	Praca Translating for a Young Audience: Translation Techniques Used to Render Jokes, Puns and Songs in Selected Disney Motion Pictures, skupia się na tłumaczeniu piosenek, żartów oraz gry słów, czerpiąc przykłady z wybranych produkcji Disney’a. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie, że tłumacząc dla młodszej widowni, tłumacze wybierają techniki, które umożliwiają im zachowanie skoposu oryginału tym samym zwiększając łatwość zrozumienia fragmentu przez młodych widzów. Stąd w pracy znajduje się odniesienie do teorii Skoposu Vermeera i Reiss. Techniki tłumaczeniowe wspomniane w pracy pochodzą z Iluzji Przekładu Krzysztofa Hejwowskiego (2015). Omówione jest również jak każda z użytych technik wpływa na postrzeganie danego fragmentu przez widza z kultury docelowej, biorąc pod uwagę naturę tłumaczenia audiowizualnego jak i fakt, że grupa docelowa Disney’a składa się głównie z dzieci i nastolatków.
