Krytyka brytyjskiej polityki zagranicznej wobec Chin do 1866 roku w ujęciu Augustusa F.Lindleya w Ti-Ping Tien-Kwoh: The History of the Taiping Revolution

dc.abstract.enThe aim of this paper is to outline the criticism of British foreign policy towards China expressed by Augustus F. Lindley in his account of his active participation in the Taiping Rebellion, which was published in 1866. The paper focuses on the question of why and for what purpose Ti-Ping Tien-Kwoh: The History of the Ti-Ping Revolution was written, and analyzes Lindley’s views and reflections on the political situation in China during the Rebellion, as well as on the causes and consequences of the British intervention against the Taipings in 1862. Attention is also given to the author's opinion on the opium trade and the role of British officials and officers stationed in China during the intervention. The paper also explores the nature of the religion practiced by the Taipings and the image of it as shaped by Lindley.
dc.abstract.plCelem tej pracy jest nakreślenie krytyki brytyjskiej polityki zagranicznej wobec Chin, którą wyraża Augustus F. Lindley w swojej wydanej w 1866 roku relacji z czynnego udziału w powstaniu tajpingów. Praca koncentruje się na pytaniu, dlaczego i w jakim celu powstało Ti-Ping Tien-Kwoh: The History of the Ti-Ping Revolution, oraz analizuje opinie i refleksje Lindleya nad sytuacją polityczną Chin w okresie powstania, a także nad przyczynami i konsekwencjami brytyjskiej interwencji przeciwko Tajpingom w 1862 roku. Uwaga została również poświęcona opinii autora na temat handlu opium oraz roli brytyjskich urzędników i oficerów stacjonujących w Chinach podczas interwencji. Przybliżona zostaje także kwestia charakteru religii wyznawanej przez Tajpingów oraz obrazu, jaki na jej temat kształtuje Lindley.
