The effectiveness of gender quotas: A comparative case study of Argentina and Brazil

dc.abstract.en	This Bachelor’s thesis analyzes the effectiveness of gender quotas in increasing women’s political representation by comparing Argentina and Brazil. These two countries were selected because they are neighboring Latin American countries with presidential political systems, and similar historical and regional contexts, however they produce different results in the implementation of gender quotas. The thesis examines how electoral systems, political parties, and quota enforcement influence women’s participation in politics. The study is based on comparative analysis and academic literature on gender and political representation. The research shows that gender quotas are more effective when there are strong enforcement mechanisms and favorable political and social conditions.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca licencjacka analizuje skuteczność kwot płci w zwiększaniu reprezentacji politycznej kobiet poprzez porównanie Argentyny i Brazylii. Kraje te zostały wybrane, ponieważ są sąsiadującymi państwami Ameryki Łacińskiej o prezydenckich systemach politycznych oraz podobnych uwarunkowaniach historycznych i regionalnych, jednak osiągają różne rezultaty we wdrażaniu kwot płci. Praca bada, w jaki sposób systemy wyborcze, partie polityczne oraz mechanizmy egzekwowania kwot wpływają na udział kobiet w życiu politycznym. Badanie opiera się na analizie porównawczej oraz literaturze naukowej dotyczącej płci i reprezentacji politycznej. Wyniki badań wskazują, że kwoty płci są bardziej skuteczne, gdy istnieją silne mechanizmy ich egzekwowania oraz sprzyjające warunki polityczne i społeczne.
