Utrwalanie romantycznych dychotomii w serialu Barbarzyńcy (2020-)

dc.abstract.en	This work entitled Perpetuating of romantic dichotomies in the Barbarians (2020-) TV series is an attempt to show how the categories of describing the world and Otherness developed in traditional cultures remain alive in modern culture. The first chapter also includes a thorough analysis of romantic dichotomies, including the conflict of center vs. peripheries, from a deconstructive perspective. Starting with a brief description of the German national myth of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest and the figure of Arminius, the author moves on to the ambivalent presence of this myth in the culture of present-day Germany. This allows us to understand the (sometimes surprising from the Polish perspective) mixed reception of the series in Germany and the caution in discussing the story of Arminius by German scientists and politicians. The work also presents the series hero's entanglement in relations with two homelands - a conflict close to Konrad Wallenrod's Polish reader. Ultimately, the author makes a diagnosis of whether modern German culture is ready for the return of great national myths.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca pt. „Utrwalanie romantycznych dychotomii w serialu Barbarzyńcy (2020-)” stanowi próbę ukazania, jak we współczesnej kulturze pozostają żywe kategorie opisywania świata i Obcości (Inności) wypracowane w kulturach tradycyjnych. W pierwszym rozdziale znajduje się też wnikliwa analiza romantycznych dychotomii, w tym konfliktu centrum vs. peryferie, w ujęciu dekonstrukcyjnym. Wychodząc od skrótowego opisu niemieckiego mitu narodowego bitwy w Lesie Teutoburskim i postaci Arminiusza, autor przechodzi do ambiwalentnej obecności tegoż mitu w kulturze współczesnych Niemiec. Pozwala to zrozumieć (niejednokrotne zadziwiające z polskiej perspektywy) mieszane przyjęcie serialu w Niemczech i ostrożności w omawianiu historii Arminiusza przez niemieckich naukowców i polityków. Praca prezentuje też uwikłanie serialowego bohatera w relacje z dwiema ojczyznami – konflikt bliski polskiemu czytelnikowi Konrada Wallenroda. Ostatecznie autor stawia diagnozę, czy współczesna kultura niemiecka jest gotowa na powrót wielkich mitów narodowych.
