dc.abstract.en	This bachelor’s thesis presents an analysis and showcase of an original photo reportage from Tajikistan — a country of exceptional cultural richness that remains on the margins of mass tourism. The aim of the thesis is to depict the multilayered reality of the region through documentary photography, as well as to reflect on travel and the image as forms of understanding. The visual material was created during a month-long hitchhiking journey, which enabled direct contact with local communities and the capture of everyday practices, relationships, and rituals. The analysis is based on three complementary research perspectives. The first concerns historical ways of depicting Tajikistan in photography, allowing the contemporary material to be situated within a broader visual context. The second examines travel as a process of shifting perception and photography as a tool for conscious observation of the world. The third focuses on photography as a document of culture — a medium that combines cognitive, aesthetic, and social functions. The interpretation of the reportage draws on key theoretical concepts: Ryszard Kapuściński’s reflections on travel as a form of internal transformation; Roland Barthes’s analysis of studium and punctum; Susan Sontag’s ethical critique of the photographic gaze; and Dorothea Lange’s approach to the photographer’s responsibility. These are complemented by contemporary approaches to documentary photography (Rouillé, Sawicki), which emphasize the relationship between image and culture. The thesis consists of three chapters devoted respectively to: the history of photographing Tajikistan, an analysis of travel as a communicative experience, and a discussion of the documentary and aesthetic functions of photography. The work is supplemented by a list of photographs as well as an appendix containing documentation of the exhibition and lecture. The thesis presents Tajikistan as an important area of alternative tourism and demonstrates that photography — as a medium of visual communication — can become a tool for fostering understanding of places that lie beyond the main routes.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca licencjacka stanowi analizę oraz prezentację autorskiego fotoreportażu z Tadżykistanu – kraju o wyjątkowym bogactwie kulturowym, który pozostaje na marginesie zainteresowań masowej turystyki. Celem pracy jest ukazanie wielowarstwowej rzeczywistości tego regionu poprzez fotografię dokumentalną, a także refleksja nad podróżą i obrazem jako formami poznania. Materiał wizualny powstał podczas miesięcznej wędrówki autostopem, co umożliwiło bezpośredni kontakt z lokalnymi społecznościami i uchwycenie codziennych praktyk, relacji i rytuałów. Analiza opiera się na trzech komplementarnych perspektywach badawczych. Pierwsza obejmuje historyczne sposoby przedstawiania Tadżykistanu w fotografii, pozwalając osadzić współczesny materiał w szerszym kontekście wizualnym. Druga dotyczy podróży jako procesu zmiany percepcji oraz roli fotografii jako narzędzia świadomej obserwacji świata. Trzecia koncentruje się na fotografii jako dokumencie kultury – medium łączącym funkcję poznawczą, estetyczną i społeczną. Interpretacja reportażu została oparta na kluczowych koncepcjach teoretycznych: refleksji Ryszarda Kapuścińskiego o podróży jako formie wewnętrznej przemiany, analizie studium i punctum Rolanda Barthesa, krytyce etycznej perspektywy Susan Sontag oraz podejściu Dorothei Lange do odpowiedzialności fotografa. Uzupełniają je współczesne ujęcia fotografii dokumentalnej (Rouillé, Sawicki), podkreślające relację między obrazem a kulturą. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów poświęconych kolejno: historii fotografowania Tadżykistanu, analizie podróży jako doświadczenia komunikacyjnego oraz omówieniu funkcji dokumentalnej i estetycznej fotografii. Całość uzupełnia spis fotografii, a także aneks z dokumentacją wystawy i prelekcji. Praca ukazuje Tadżykistan jako ważny obszar turystyki alternatywnej i dowodzi, że fotografia – jako medium komunikacji wizualnej – może stać się narzędziem budowania zrozumienia dla miejsc pozostających poza głównymi szlakami.
