Hate Words: An Analysis of the Translation of Vulgarisms in the English Subtitles of the Polish TV Series Blinded by the Lights and Polish Subtitles of the American Series Euphoria

dc.abstract.en	This thesis aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the translation techniques of vulgarisms in the Polish series Blinded by the lights and the American series Euphoria. The analysis is based on a comparison of the original language version presented in the form of subtitles and its translation (pl-eng/eng-pl). The main theme of consideration in the work is the presence of hate speech in the media, especially in the immensely popular selected series of Polish and American production. The paper discusses definitions of translation and the history of audiovisual translation. The role of subtitles in audiovisual translation and their classification is presented. Furthermore, vulgarisms and hate speech were analyzed. The issue of slang as environmental speech, which usually abounds in vulgarisms, was highlighted. The historical and legal context covering the issue of vulgarisms present in the media is also shown.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca dyplomowa ma na celu przeprowadzenie wnikliwej analizy technik tłumaczeń wulgaryzmów w Polskim serialu „Ślepnąc od świateł” oraz w Amerykańskim serialu „Euphoria”. Analiza opiera się na porównaniu oryginalnej wersji językowej przedstawionej w postaci napisów oraz jej tłumaczenia (pl-ang/ang-pl). Głównym motywem rozważań w pracy jest obecność wulgaryzmów w mediach, szczególnie w cieszących się ogromną popularnością wybranych serialach polskiej i amerykańskiej produkcji. W pracy zostały omówione definicje tłumaczenia oraz historia tłumaczeń audiowizualnych. Zaprezentowano również rolę napisów w tłumaczeniach audiowizualnych i przedstawiono ich klasyfikację. Poddano także analizie wulgaryzmy. Wyróżnione zostało zagadnienie slangu jako mowy środowiskowej, która zazwyczaj obfituje w wulgaryzmy. Ukazano także kontekst historyczno-prawny obejmujący zagadnienie wulgaryzmów obecnych w mediach.
