Translating neologisms in Polish dubbing of Scooby Doo between 1969 and 1979

This thesis concerns the analysis of neologisms in the English-language animated series Scooby-Doo and their translations in the Polish dubbed version. The aim of the study was to classify selected neologisms based on their structure and function, as well as to identify the translation strategies used in the Polish dubbing. The research material included episodes from the series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969), The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972), The Scooby-Doo Show (1976), and Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1979), which were analyzed for the occurrence of collocational, structural, semantic, absolute, and mixed neologisms. The analysis used the classification by Mangiron (2006), which includes strategies such as adaptation, creation, borrowing, and literal translation. The study shows that the most commonly used translation strategies were creation, adaptation, borrowing, and literal translation. Strategies such as generalization and compression were also used, though less frequently. The findings of the analysis indicate that effective translation of neologisms requires not only knowledge of the source and target languages, but also consideration of cultural context and the technical constraints specific to audiovisual translation.
Niniejsza praca dotyczy analizy neologizmów w anglojęzycznym serialu animowanym Scooby-Doo oraz ich tłumaczeń w dubbingu na język polski. Celem pracy było sklasyfikowanie wybranych neologizmów na podstawie ich struktury i funkcji oraz określenie strategii tłumaczeniowych zastosowanych w polskiej wersji dubbingowej. Materiał badawczy obejmował odcinki z serii Scooby-Doo where are you (1969), The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972), The Scooby-Doo Show (1976), Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1979), które zostały przeanalizowane pod kątem występowania neologizmów kolokacyjnych, strukturalnych, semantycznych, absolutnych oraz mieszanych.
