English-Polish Dictionary of COVID-19- related Terminology

dc.abstract.en	Abstract The thesis deals with English and Polish medical terminology. The aim of this thesis is to analyse and compare the English and Polish terminological systems in the field of medicine, with particular emphasis on terminology related to the coronavirus pandemic. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to terminology. It describes the historical aspect, the origin of this scientific discipline , as well as terminological theories. In addition, it provides information on concepts, lexemes and terms. It also provides information on the similarities and differences between specialised languages and general language. Chapter two focuses on the origin and theory of lexicography. It also contains information about dictionaries, their characteristics and typology. It describes specialized dictionaries and their distinctive features. The third chapter deals with medical terminology, related to COVID-19. It focuses on the characteristics and origin of the coronavirus, as well as its global impact on people, their communication and language. The practical part contains a bilingual dictionary of medical terminology. The dictionary consists of 100 selected entries and is arranged alphabetically. The dictionary includes English terms with their Polish equivalents, definitions, collocations and notes with additional information. The target audience for this dictionary comprises those involved in the medical field, doctors, medical students, hospital staff, as well as teachers, student and anyone interested in the subject. The dictionary is also intended for translators and students translating specialized texts in the fields of medicine, epidemiology and virology. The dictionary can enhance communication between doctors, specialists, patients and students in Poland and around the world.
dc.abstract.pl	Streszczenie Niniejsza praca dotyczy angielskiej i polskiej terminologii medycznej. Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza i porównanie angielskiego i polskiego systemu terminologicznego w zakresie medycyny, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem terminologii związanej z pandemią korona wirusa. Praca składa się z części teoretycznej i praktycznej. Część teoretyczna obejmuje trzy rozdziały. Rozdział pierwszy poświęcony jest terminologii. Opisuje on historyczny aspekt, powstanie tej dyscypliny naukowej , jak również teorie terminologiczne. Oprócz tego, podaje także informacje o pojęciach, leksemach i terminach. Zawiera także informacje o podobieństwach i różnicach między językami specjalistycznymi, a językiem ogólnym. Rozdział drugi koncentruje się na pochodzeniu i teorii leksykografii. Zawarte są w nim także informacje o słowniku, jego cechach i typologii. Opisuje on również słownik specjalistyczny wraz z kryteriami i cechami charakterystycznymi. Rozdział trzeci dotyczy terminologii medycznej, związanej głównie z COVID-19. Skupia się on na cechach i pochodzeniu koronawirusa, a także na jego globalnym wpływie na ludzi, ich komunikację i język. Część praktyczna, natomiast zawiera dwujęzyczny słownik terminologii medycznej. Słownik składa się z wybranych 100 haseł i jest uporządkowany alfabetycznie. Słownik obejmuje angielskie terminy wraz z ich ekwiwalentami w języku polskim, definicje, kolokacje oraz notatki z dodatkowymi informacjami. Docelowymi odbiorcami niniejszego słownika są osoby związane ze środowiskiem medycznym, lekarze, studenci medycyny, pracownicy szpitali, a także nauczyciele, uczniowie i wszyscy zainteresowani tematem. Słownik jest przeznaczony również dla tłumaczy i studentów tłumaczących teksty specjalistyczne z zakresu medycyny, epidemiologii i wirusologii. Słownik może ułatwić komunikację między lekarzami, specjalistami, pacjentami, czy studentami w Polsce i na świecie.
