dc.abstract.en	This thesis concerns the development of the Chilean penitentiary system, with particular emphasis on the status of inmates. Its aim is to examine the realities of serving prison sentences in Chile, against the backdrop of conditions in penitentiary facilities in El Salvador and Brazil, in the context of human rights. It presents the historical and social changes that have shaped the Chilean penitentiary system, and the section describing field research and expert interviews highlights the difficulties associated with working and living in a prison environment. It also illustrates the imperfections of the system and the need for fundamental changes in the perception and treatment of prisoners, as well as the possibility of reducing recidivism through work, education, and self-fulfillment.
dc.abstract.pl	Praca dotyczy rozwoju chilijskiego systemu penitencjarnego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem statusu osadzonego. Jej celem jest zbadanie realiów odbywania kary pozbawienia wolności w Chile, na tle warunków jednostek penitencjarnych Salwadoru i Brazylii, w kontekście praw człowieka. Przedstawia ona zmiany historyczne oraz społeczne, które ukształtowały chilijski system penitencjarny, a część opisująca badania terenowe i wywiady eksperckie, eksponuje trudności związane z pracą i przebywaniem w środowisku więziennym. Ilustruje ona również niedoskonałość systemu i potrzebę fundamentalnych zmian w postrzeganiu i traktowaniu osadzonego oraz możliwości zmniejszenia recydywy poprzez pracę, edukację, a także samorealizację.
