Can Success Be Achieved through Hard Work? The Meaning of the American Dream for the Millennial Generation

dc.abstract.en	The master's thesis analyzes how the contemporary Millennial generation understands and relates to the idea of the American Dream, compared to previous generations, especially the Baby Boomers. The work examines whether Millennials associate success with traditional values, such as financial stability or homeownership, or the concept has changed because of the economic, technological and social challenges. The work describes the most popular generational theories, analyzes the changes that have occurred in the job market in recent decades and in cost and access to education, as well as the impact of technology. The findings indicate a shift in the definition of success towards a greater emphasis on personal fulfillment, life flexibility and work-life balance.
dc.abstract.pl	Praca magisterska analizuje, jak współczesne pokolenie Millenialsów rozumie i odnosi się do idei Amerykańskiego Snu, w porównaniu do wcześniejszych pokoleń, szczególnie pokolenia Baby Boomers. Praca pochyla się nad tym, czy sukces dla Millenialsów wciąż jest związany z tradycyjnymi wartościami, takimi jak stabilność finansowa lub posiadanie własnej nieruchomości, czy też pojęcie to ewoluowało w odpowiedzi na współczesne wyzwania ekonomiczne, technologiczne i społeczne. Praca opisuje dotychczas powstałe teorie pokoleń, analizuje zmiany, które zaszły na rynku pracy w ostatnich dekadach oraz w cenach i dostępie do edukacji oraz wpływu technologii. Wnioski wskazują na przesunięcie w definicji sukcesu w kierunku większego nacisku na spełnienie osobiste, elastyczność życiową oraz balans pomiędzy pracą a życiem prywatnym.
