Analysis of Translation Strategies and Methods in the Polish Voice-over and Subtiltes of the Film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

dc.abstract.en	The following thesis is devoted to the analysis of the translation strategies and methods utilized in the Polish voice-over and subtitles of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the theory of audiovisual translation, the characteristics of the modes of voice-over and subtitles and both general translation strategies and the strategies typical of the audiovisual translation. The analytical part is based on the qualitative research approach. Translation strategies and methods are analyzed within four sections: proper names, affectonyms, translation of wordplays and translation of songs. It is found that the applied strategies and methods differ from section to section. Within the section of proper names, dominated the translation strategy of retention, while within the translation of affectonyms and wordplays the strategy of explicitation proved to be the most popular one. The translation of songs was creative and thus, it can be associated with the method of free translation. Overall, the translation decisions contribute to the characteristic of the protagonists and to the creation of the diegetic world. The thesis attempts to enrich the existing literature on the translation of The Hunger Games Series by analyzing its newest instalment.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca jest poświęcona analizie strategii i metod tłumaczeniowych wykorzystanych w polskiej wersji lektorskiej i napisach filmu Igrzyska Śmieci: Ballada ptaków i węży. Część teoretyczna pracy skupia się na teorii tłumaczeń audiowizualnych, charakterystyce wersji lektorskiej i napisów, a także przedstawia strategie tłumaczeniowe, które znajdują swoje zastosowanie w dalszej analizie. Część praktyczna korzysta z jakościowej analizy do badania użytych strategii i metod tłumaczeniowych w obrębie określonych sekcji, takich jak nazwy własne, afektonimy, tłumaczenie gier słownych i piosenek. Z analizy wynika, że zastosowane strategie i metody tłumaczeniowe różnią się w zależności od analizowanej sekcji. W tłumaczeniu nazw własnych dominowała strategia retencji, w tłumaczeniu afektonimów i gier słownych najbardziej popularna okazała się strategia eksplicytacji. Z kolei tłumaczenie piosenek wyróżnia kreatywność i związana z nią metoda wolnego przekładu. Podejmowane przez tłumacza decyzje tłumaczeniowe trafnie charakteryzują bohaterów i przyczyniają się do kreacji świata przedstawionego w filmie. Analiza służy poszerzeniu istniejących badań nad tłumaczeniem serii Igrzyska Śmierci poprzez skupienie się do nowej części uniwersum.
