History Of Relations Between Mongolia And Ukraine - Historical Ties And Contemporary Challenges

dc.abstract.en	This thesis systematically examines the historical, political, cultural, and economic relations between Mongolia and Ukraine, tracing their trajectory from medieval encounters and Soviet-era cooperation to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992 and subsequent bilateral developments. Although geographically distant, the two countries share similar experiences: both were deeply influenced by the Soviet system, underwent post-socialist transitions after independence, and actively sought diversified foreign policies. The study shows that over the past three decades, bilateral relations have displayed a “wave-like” pattern, with dynamics accelerating or slowing depending on Ukraine’s geopolitical orientation. Education, cultural exchanges, and trade represent the main areas of cooperation, with more than 65 bilateral agreements signed. Despite structural constraints—such as the absence of permanent embassies, logistical barriers, and limited strategic convergence—the relationship has remained friendly, pragmatic, and stable. The thesis argues that Mongolia–Ukraine relations exemplify small-state diplomacy and balancing strategies within the broader framework of great-power competition.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca systematycznie analizuje historyczne, polityczne, kulturowe i gospodarcze relacje między Mongolią a Ukrainą, śledząc ich rozwój od spotkań w średniowieczu i współpracy w okresie radzieckim po nawiązanie stosunków dyplomatycznych w 1992 roku oraz dalsze relacje dwustronne. Pomimo dużej odległości geograficznej oba kraje dzielą podobne doświadczenia: były głęboko ukształtowane przez system radziecki, po uzyskaniu niepodległości przeszły transformacje postsocjalistyczne i aktywnie dążyły do dywersyfikacji polityki zagranicznej. Badanie pokazuje, że w ciągu ostatnich trzech dekad relacje dwustronne wykazywały charakter „falowy”, przyspieszając lub zwalniając w zależności od orientacji geopolitycznej Ukrainy. Edukacja, wymiana kulturalna i handel stanowią główne obszary współpracy, a podpisano ponad 65 umów dwustronnych. Pomimo ograniczeń strukturalnych — takich jak brak stałych ambasad, bariery logistyczne i ograniczona zbieżność strategiczna — relacje te pozostają przyjazne, pragmatyczne i stabilne. Autor pracy dowodzi, że stosunki mongolsko-ukraińskie są przykładem dyplomacji małych państw oraz strategii równoważenia w szerszych ramach rywalizacji mocarstw.
