Cechy temperamentu, wsparcie społeczne oraz zmienne socjodemograficzne a nasilenie doświadczanego stresu akademickiego

The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between temperament traits, conceptualized within the Regulatory Theory of Temperament, perceived social support, selected sociodemographic variables, and the severity of academic stress among university students. The study involved 323 students representing various fields of study: humanities, social sciences, exact and natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, and the arts. The variables were measured using the Formal Characteristics of Behavior - Temperament Markers Inventory based on the FCB-TI(R), the Academic Support Questionnaire (own development), and a translated version of the Academic Stress Inventory. Analyses revealed that academic stress is multifactorial and is related to both individual characteristics and environmental factors. Selected temperament traits emerged as significant predictors of stress. Higher emotional reactivity and perseveration were associated with greater severity of academic stress, whereas briskness served as a protective factor. Perceived social support was also significantly related to stress levels. Students who rated the availability of support higher reported lower levels of academic stress. Informational support and support received from academic instructors played a particularly important role. Furthermore, students majoring in medical and health sciences, as well as engineering and technology, experienced higher levels of stress than students in the humanities and social sciences. In contrast, no significant effect of the year of study on the level of academic stress was confirmed. The obtained results highlight the importance of both students' individual resources and the quality of the academic environment in shaping stress levels. These findings can provide a foundation for designing preventive measures and psychological support systems at universities aimed at strengthening protective resources and mitigating the negative consequences of academic stress.
Celem badania było określenie związku między cechami temperamentu, ujmowanymi w ramach Regulacyjnej Teorii Temperamentu, spostrzeganym wsparciem społecznym, wybranymi zmiennymi socjodemograficznymi a nasileniem stresu akademickiego u studentów. W badaniu wzięło udział 323 studentów reprezentujących różne dziedziny kształcenia: nauki humanistyczne, społeczne, ścisłe i przyrodnicze, inżynieryjno-techniczne, medyczne i o zdrowiu oraz sztuki.
