„Anna Karenina” trzech wieków. Powieść Lwa Tołstoja i jej adaptacje filmowe z 1935 i 2012 roku
| dc.abstract.en | The paper focuses on a comparative analysis of 'Anna Karenina' by Leo Tolstoy and its selected adaptations: the 1935 film directed by Clarence Brown and the 2012 film directed by Joe Wright. The aim of the thesis is to examine how film adaptations reinterpret the key elements of the novel and what meanings are transformed in the process of intermedial transposition. The starting point is the assumption that an adaptation does not constitute a faithful reproduction of a literary work, but rather its creative reinterpretation, conditioned both by the specificity of the film medium and by the cultural context of a given era. The analysis is based on the tools of adaptation theory, intermedial studies, and the hermeneutic-semiotic method. The structure of the work is organized around three analytical dimensions: the protagonist, society, and space. In each of these, a comparison is made between the construction of these elements in the novel and in the film adaptations. The 1935 film simplifies the social and psychological structure of the work, placing Anna Karenina's story within the convention of melodrama, whereas the 2012 adaptation employs deliberate formal devices, such as the theatricalization of space, emphasizing the conventional and performative nature of the represented world. Thus, the film adaptations function as part of a broader transmedial process, in which the novel and its subsequent realizations remain in a dialogic relationship with one another. The difference between the analyzed works result both in the individual decisions of the creators and from the evolution of film language, as well as the changing experience of the audience. |
Film z 1935 roku upraszcza strukturę społeczną i psychologiczną utworu, wpisując historię Anny Kareniny w konwencję melodramatu, natomiast adaptacja z 2012 roku wykorzystuje świadome zabiegi formalne, takie jak teatralizacja przestrzeni, podkreślając konwencjonalność i performatywny charakter przedstawionego świata. |
