Kapitał, klasa, komputer. Zróżnicowane strategie osób starszych wobec technologii

dc.abstract.en	The aim of this thesis is to examine how habitus and class affiliation influence older adults’ relationship with technology. The starting point is the growing demand for digital skills among seniors and the lack of qualitative research into their everyday technological practices. The work is grounded in Pierre Bourdieu’s theory—particularly the concepts of habitus, capital, hysteresis, and self-exclusion—which help capture the mechanisms that differentiate technological adaptation. The study is based on in-depth interviews with representatives of the working and upper classes (aged 60+). The analysis revealed differences in digital competencies, usage styles, and sources of pressure. The upper class demonstrates openness, independence, and a positive attitude toward technology; the working class exhibits caution, a withdrawal from learning, and delegation of digital tasks to close others. The findings show that digital inequalities are not solely a matter of age, but are shaped by cultural and social capital. Recognizing these structural conditions is crucial for effective digital inclusion of older adults, especially those most at risk of voluntary exclusion.
dc.abstract.pl	Celem pracy jest zbadanie, jak habitus i przynależność klasowa wpływają na relację osób starszych z technologią. Punktem wyjścia jest rosnące zapotrzebowanie na kompetencje cyfrowe seniorów i brak jakościowych badań ich codziennych praktyk. Praca opiera się na teorii Pierre’a Bourdieu – szczególnie pojęciach habitusu, kapitału, histerezy i autoeliminacji – które pozwalają uchwycić mechanizmy różnicujące adaptację do technologii. Materiał stanowiły pogłębione wywiady z przedstawicielami klasy ludowej i wyższej (60+). Analiza ujawniła różnice w kompetencjach, stylach korzystania z urządzeń i źródłach presji. Klasa wyższa wykazuje otwartość, samodzielność i pozytywne nastawienie do technologii; klasa ludowa – zachowawczość, rezygnację z nauki i delegowanie zadań bliskim. Wyniki pokazują, że cyfrowe nierówności nie wynikają wyłącznie z wieku, lecz z kapitału kulturowego i społecznego. Rozpoznanie tych uwarunkowań jest kluczowe dla skutecznej inkluzji cyfrowej osób starszych, zwłaszcza najbardziej narażonych na dobrowolne wykluczenie.
