Język solówek gitarowych Prince’a – analiza stylu indywidualnego

dc.abstract.enIn this study I analyzed Prince’s individual style as a lead guitarist based on 190 guitar solos from 38 studio albums released by the artist between 1978 and 2016. The study covers both structural parameters (rhythm, melodics, harmony, dynamics, tempo, articulation) and timbre (instrumentation, sound effects). The analysis revealed that Prince’s guitar solo style is characterized by relative technical simplicity combined with high emotional expression. A key element of his guitar language is “vocality” — the artist using the instrument deliberately imitates his own characteristic shrill falsetto. Prince’s solos are based on harmonically minimalist melodies within a narrow ambitus, characterized by the intensive use of vibrato and string bends, and the specific tone produced by a Hohner Madcat guitar, a Mesa Boogie Mark II amplifier, and Boss effects. Despite the eclectic nature of the artist’s work across genres, his guitar soloing style remained consistent throughout his career, representing an unchanging blend of blues, rock, and funk traditions.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca stanowi analizę stylu indywidualnego Prince’a jako gitarzysty solowego na podstawie 190 solówek gitarowych z 38 albumów studyjnych wydanych w latach 1978–2016. Badanie obejmuje zarówno parametry strukturalne (rytmika, melodyka, harmonika, dynamika, agogika, artykulacja), jak i kolorystykę (instrumentarium, efekty brzmieniowe). Analiza wykazała, że styl solowy Prince’a charakteryzuje się względną prostotą techniczną przy jednoczesnej wysokiej ekspresji emocjonalnej. Kluczowym elementem jego języka gitarowego jest „wokalność” – świadome naśladowanie przez gitarę elektryczną charakterystycznego dla artysty skrzekliwego falsetu. Solówki Prince’a opierają się na minimalistycznej melodyce w wąskim ambitusie, intensywnym wykorzystaniu vibrata i podciągania strun oraz specyficznym brzmieniu uzyskiwanym przez gitarę Hohner Madcat, wzmacniacz Mesa Boogie Mark II i efekty firmy Boss. Mimo synkretyzmu gatunkowego twórczości artysty jego język solowy pozostawał spójny przez całą karierę, stanowiąc niezmienne połączenie tradycji bluesowej, rockowej i funkowej.
