Connectés - Livre de l'apprenant Connectés - Guide pédagogique Volume d'analyse

This thesis was written as part of a Master’s internship carried out at the University of Warsaw, within the Institute of Romance Studies. During one semester, the author taught an integrated-skills French course to first-year students enrolled in the beginner track. Although officially placed at A1 level, the group was highly heterogeneous: complete beginners, students with one to three years of prior French learning, and even one learner already at B2 level. This diversity, combined with institutional requirements (use of Défi 1, shared examinations, and a rapid progression expected to join the advanced track in the third year), led the author to explore teaching approaches that could balance individualisation with group coherence. In response to these challenges, the author chose to implement a flipped-classroom model. By shifting theoretical input to independent work at home and dedicating classroom time to practical, collaborative tasks, the approach aimed to manage linguistic heterogeneity more effectively, foster learner autonomy, and highlight peer interaction. The study draws on several theoretical frameworks regarding the effects of flipped learning: development of oral and written skills, reduction of language anxiety, motivational impact of digital tools, peer tutoring, and differentiated pace management. The experiment took place over an entire semester, using a digital textbook created specifically for the project (Connectés). It combined at-home video materials with collaborative in-class activities. Data were collected through classroom observations, group interviews, analysis of intermediary assessments, and monitoring of written work. The results reveal increased student engagement, significant improvement in oral fluency, and stronger group cohesion, partly thanks to spontaneous peer support between students of different levels. The flipped model allowed stronger students to consolidate their skills while helping weaker learners, and provided beginners with more guided practice during class time. However, some limitations emerged: inconsistent student investment in autonomous work, technical issues (access to materials, classroom equipment), attention fluctuations depending on schedule, and unequal familiarity with online learning. The author notes that the success of the flipped model depends on clear guidance, regular preparatory work, and explicit instructions. Despite these challenges, the overall outcome is positive: the flipped classroom proves to be a relevant tool for managing heterogeneity and encouraging more active learning. The thesis concludes with pedagogical recommendations (more personalised feedback, gradual development of autonomy, more carefully structured pre-class tasks) and an in-depth analysis of the Connectés digital textbook, designed as a flexible learning environment focusing on grammar, writing, speaking and interactive activities tailored to individual learning rhythms. Overall, the study shows that in a university context marked by diverse learner profiles, the flipped classroom offers a promising pathway towards greater equity, motivation and success in FLE, provided it is carefully adapted and supported.

Model odwróconej klasy pozwolił osobom bardziej zaawansowanym rozwijać swoje kompetencje, a jednocześnie wspierać słabszych, natomiast początkujący otrzymywali więcej czasu na ćwiczenia z nauczycielem. Podręcznik podkreśla rozwój gramatyki, pisania, wypowiedzi ustnej i interakcji, dostosowanych do indywidualnego tempa pracy.
