Żart Herhora i samobójstwo Pentuera – czyli modernistyczna polityka w „Faraonie” Bolesława Prusa

dc.abstract.en	This paper aims to put politics of Boleslaw Prus’ „Pharaoh” into scrutiny and by interpreting plotlines and motives recognised as modern arguments on behalf of the connection to what is now called political fiction. To achieve that it looks at the particular plot points, and their placement within the novel, paying attention to its structure. It also shows new context to them, partly adding to their meanings: Herhor’s behaviour is compared to a joke and conclusions are drawn about hypothetical suicidal death of Pentuer. This work tries as well to name interests that motivate the actions of particular political parties. The interpretation of Herhor’s ironic attitude helps with the deeper understanding of the essence of power in „Pharaoh”. On the other hand, adding an ending to Pentuer’s story gives us a better look at the political change that takes place in this novel.
dc.abstract.pl	Praca ma na celu przyjrzeć się polityce obecnej w powieści „Faraon” Bolesława Prusa oraz przez wątki i motywy określane jako modernistyczne wykazać związki z tym, co dzisiaj nazywamy political fiction. W tym celu przygląda się poszczególnym wypadkom fabularnym i ich umiejscowieniu w powieści, zwracając tym samym uwagę na jej strukturę. Stawia je też w nowym świetle, dopowiadając częściowo ich sensy: przyrównuje zachowanie Herhora do żartu i wysnuwa wnioski o możliwej samobójczej śmierci Pentuera. Próbuje uchwycić też interesy, które motywują działania poszczególnych politycznych grup. Interpretacja ironicznej postawy Herhora pozwala na głębsze zrozumienie istoty władzy w „Faraonie”. Dopowiedzenie historii Pentuera daje z kolei wgląd w polityczną zmianę, która zachodzi w tej powieści.
