Translation of cultural elements in comic books on the example of “Ms. Marvel: No Normal” by G. Willow Wilson and its Polish translation by Anna Tatarska “Ms. Marvel: Niezwykła”.

dc.abstract.en	The aim of this thesis is to examine the cultural elements appearing in the comic “Ms. Marvel: No Normal” by G. Willow Wilson and to analyze the translation strategies used by Anna Tatarska in her Polish translation of that comic, titled “Ms. Marvel: Niezwykła”. With this objective, a comparative analysis of the original and Anna Tatarska’s translation was carried out. In the first chapter of this thesis, the history of American comic books and the main characteristics of superhero comics were discussed. The second chapter focuses on features common to all comics. The next chapter analyzes the elements in comics that undergo translation. The fifth chapter introduces the concept of cultural element and lists its types. The sixth chapter explains the term of translation strategy and presents Jan Pedersen’s taxonomy of translation strategies, based on which the analysis was conducted. The next chapter of this thesis is devoted to the analysis of the selected examples of cultural elements from this comic book and their translation. Those examples were divided by thematic categories and analyzed in terms of the translation strategies used by the translator. The last chapter is devoted to a reflection of the conclusions drawn from the analyzed material.
dc.abstract.pl	Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie elementów kulturowych w komiksie „Ms. Marvel: No Normal” autorstwa G. Willow Wilson oraz analiza strategii tłumaczeniowych użytych przez Annę Tatarską w jego polskim tłumaczeniu, zatytułowanym „Ms. Marvel: Niezwykła”. W tym celu przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą oryginału z tłumaczeniem Anny Tatarskiej. W pierwszym rozdziale omówiona została historia amerykańskiego komiksu oraz cechy charakterystyczne komiksów o superbohaterach. Drugi rozdział skupia się na cechach charakterystycznych wspólnych dla wszystkich komiksów. W kolejnym rozdziale przeprowadzono analizę elementów, które podlegają tłumaczeniu w komiksach. Rozdział piąty wprowadza pojęcie elementu kulturowego oraz wymienia jego rodzaje. Rozdział szósty zawiera definicję strategii tłumaczeniowych oraz klasyfikację strategii tłumaczeniowych Jana Pedersena, na podstawie której została przeprowadzona analiza. Kolejny rozdział poświęcony jest analizie przykładów elementów kulturowych z komiksu oraz ich tłumaczeniu. Zostały one podzielone tematycznie, a następnie przeanalizowane pod kątem strategii tłumaczeniowych zastosowanych przez tłumaczkę. Ostatni rozdział poświęcony jest omówieniu wniosków wypływających z przeanalizowanego materiału.
