Impas w kwestii zwierzęcej. Prawa zwierząt a problem obywatelstwa

dc.abstract.en	Despite decades of reflection on humans’ approach to animals, non-humans still suffer brutal, industrial exploitation, and calls for protecting their lives are neither widely accepted nor implemented. Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka, authors of Zoopolis: A Political Theory of Animal Rights, argue that this is partly due to theoretical shortcomings and the intellectual unattractiveness of both the older utilitarian approach and the newer rights-based approach (Animal Rights Theory). The scholars defend the core of the rights-based position but revise and supplement it with their own theory of citizenship. The aim of this study is to compare the views presented in Zoopolis with the utilitarian approach of Peter Singer, exemplified by his famous Animal Liberation. The paper also refers to earlier perspectives on our obligations toward non-humans and presents critiques of the discussed positions — including Roger Scruton’s attacks on Singer and moral dilemmas illustrating potential gaps in the solutions proposed by the authors of Zoopolis.
dc.abstract.pl	Mimo dekad refleksji na temat podejścia ludzi względem zwierząt, nie-ludzie wciąż podlegają brutalnej, przemysłowej eksploatacji, a postulaty ochrony ich życia nie są ani powszechnie akceptowane, ani wcielane w życie. Sue Donaldson i Will Kymlicka, autorzy Zoopolis. Teorii politycznej praw zwierząt, uważają, że jest tak m.in. ze względu na niedociągnięcia teoretyczne i intelektualną nieatrakcyjność zarówno starszego podejścia utylitarystycznego oraz nowszego podejścia opartego na prawach (Animal Rights Theory). Badacze bronią podstaw stanowiska opartego na prawach, ale korygują je i uzupełniają o własną teorię obywatelstwa. Celem niniejszej pracy jest porównanie poglądów wyłożonych w Zoopolis z utylitarystycznym podejściem Petera Singera na przykładzie jego słynnego Wyzwolenia zwierząt. Praca odnosi się też do wcześniejszych poglądów na kwestię naszych zobowiązań względem nie-ludzi i przedstawia zarzuty wobec opisywanych stanowisk – w tym ataki Rogera Scrutona kierowane przeciwko Singerowi czy dylematy moralne mogące ilustrować luki rozwiązań zaproponowanych przez autorów Zoopolis.
