A comparative analysis of Jadwiga Dmochowska's and Tomasz Tesznar's translations of Jane Austen's novel “Emma”

dc.abstract.en	This study focuses on a comparative analysis of selected aspects of translations of Jane Austen's novel titled “Emma” translated by Tomasz Tesznar and Jadwiga Dmochowska. The work contains several chapters. The first chapter includes translation theory relevant to the subject of translation. Besides translation techniques, among others the topic of equivalence or untranslatability are discussed. Chapter two covers the historical context of the novel and a brief biography of Jane Austen. Chapter three provides a description of the corpus with a focus on the aspects studied in the work. Information on the publication of the novel itself and the translations studied in this work is also provided. At the end of the chapter, specific research questions are presented. Chapter four contains the comparative analysis conducted in terms of the translation of irony in the novel, wordplays, forms of address and expressions related to culture and social gatherings. The fifth chapter contains the conclusions drawn from the research. The bibliography is included at the very end.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca skupia się na analizie porównawczej wybranych aspektów przekładów powieści Jane Austen zatytułowanej „Emma” dokonanych przez Tomasza Tesznara i Jadwigę Dmochowską. Praca składa się z kilku rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział obejmuje teorię przekładu istotną dla tematyki pracy. Oprócz technik tłumaczeniowych omówiono m.in. zagadnienie ekwiwalencji czy nieprzetłumaczalności. Rozdział drugi obejmuje kontekst historyczny powieści i krótką biografię Jane Austen. Rozdział trzeci zawiera opis korpusu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aspektów badanych w pracy. Przedstawione są również informacje na temat publikacji samej powieści i przekładów analizowanych w niniejszej pracy. Na końcu rozdziału przedstawiono szczegółowe pytania badawcze. Rozdział czwarty zawiera analizę porównawczą przeprowadzoną pod kątem tłumaczenia ironii w powieści, gry słownej, form adresatywnych oraz wyrażeń związanych z kulturą i spotkaniami towarzyskimi. Rozdział piąty zawiera wnioski wyciągnięte z przeprowadzonych badań. Na samym końcu zamieszczono bibliografię.
