Comparative Analysis of the Translation of Humor Based on the Polish Dubbing of the American Teen Sitcom Hannah Montana

dc.abstract.en	The purpose of this paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of the translation of humor in selected episodes of the American teen sitcom “Hannah Montana”. The point of reference for the analysis is the original English version of the sitcom, and its subject is the Polish dubbed version. The work is divided into two parts: theoretical, consisting of a description of issues related to audiovisual translation and the translation of humor, and practical, devoted to the analysis of humorous dialogs made by the characters of the series. The theoretical part includes two chapters. The first chapter begins by defining the term translation, then discusses what audiovisual translation is, what distinguishes it, and presents its types. The second chapter, however, addresses the topic of humor in audiovisual translation and lists the most popular theories of humor and its typology. It then focuses on describing humor in sitcoms for teenagers, deals with the problem of the untranslatability of humor, and lists strategies for translating humor. The practical part is contained entirely in the third chapter, which analyzes the translation of individual extracts divided according to the type of humor used in them: wordplay, sarcasm, cultural references and gross humor. The analysis is closed with conclusions and an attempt to evaluate the translations in terms of their suitability, the strategy used and the humorous effect produced.
dc.abstract.pl	Celem niniejszej pracy jest przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej tłumaczenia humoru w wybranych odcinkach amerykańskiego sitcomu dla młodzieży „Hannah Montana”. Punktem odniesienia analizy jest oryginalna angielskojęzyczna wersja sitcomu, a jej przedmiotem polska wersja dubbingowa. Praca jest podzielona na dwie części: teoretyczną, składającą się z opisu zagadnień związanych z tłumaczeniem audiowizualnym i przekładem humoru, oraz praktyczną, poświęconą analizie humorystycznych wypowiedzi bohaterów serialu. W skład części teoretycznej wchodzą dwa rozdziały. Pierwszy z nich rozpoczyna się od zdefiniowania samego pojęcia tłumaczenie, a następnie prezentuje, czym jest tłumaczenie audiowizualne i czym się ono wyróżnia, a także jakie są jego rodzaje. Z kolei rozdział drugi porusza tematykę humoru w tłumaczeniu audiowizualnym, wymienia najpopularniejsze teorie humoru, a także jego typologię. W dalszej części skupia się na opisie humoru w sitcomach dla młodzieży, zajmuje się problematyką nieprzekładalności humoru oraz wymienia strategie tłumaczenia humoru. Część praktyczna została zawarta w rozdziale trzecim, w którym przeanalizowane zostały tłumaczenia poszczególnych dialogów podzielone ze względu na zastosowany w nich typ humoru: grę słowną, sarkazm, nawiązania kulturowe oraz humor związany z obrzydzeniem. Analizę zamykają wnioski i próba oceny tłumaczeń pod względem ich adekwatności, zastosowanej strategii oraz wywołanego efektu humorystycznego.
