Ambiwalentna symbolika węża w Biblii. Uwarunkowania egzegetyczne, kulturowe i biologiczne

dc.abstract.en	This study examines the ambivalent symbolism of the serpent in the Bible and explores the exegetical, cultural, and biological factors that shaped its meaning. The analysis shows that the serpent appears both as a symbol of evil, chaos, and sin, and as a sign of divine power, healing, and salvation. The study argues that the biblical image of the serpent can be understood as the result of an interaction between Israelite religious tradition, broader cultural patterns of the ancient Near East, and human experience of the natural world. The serpent’s symbolic significance is shaped not only by its role in biblical narratives, but also by biological features that have long made snakes objects of fear and fascination. As a result, the serpent becomes a figure capable of expressing both danger and deliverance, destruction and renewal. Its enduring presence in biblical literature illustrates how a single animal image can acquire multiple theological meanings and remain a powerful element of religious imagination throughout the biblical tradition.
dc.abstract.pl	Praca analizuje ambiwalentną symbolikę węża w kanonicznych tekstach biblijnych oraz wskazuje czynniki egzegetyczne, kulturowe i biologiczne, które współtworzą jej negatywno-pozytywny charakter. Analizie poddano wybrane teksty, w których wąż występuje jako figura zła, chaosu i grzechu, ale także jako znak mocy Boga, uzdrowienia i ocalenia. W pracy zastosowano metodę egzegetyczno-literacką, uwzględniając semantykę terminów hebrajskich i greckich, kontekst religii starożytnego Bliskiego Wschodu oraz biologiczne uwarunkowania ludzkiej percepcji węży. Główna teza zakłada, że biblijny obraz węża jest rezultatem splotu tradycji religijnej Izraela, dyfuzji kulturowej oraz naturalnych cech tego zwierzęcia, które sprzyjały nadawaniu mu znaczeń granicznych.
