The 2023 Polish Parliamentary Election in the British Media – an Analysis of Journalistic Style

dc.abstract.en	The main goal of the bachelor's thesis was to analyse the description of the parliamentary elections in Poland that took place on 15th October 2023, by selected British media – The Guardian, BBC, and The Telegraph. The analysis focused on articles published online between October 15 and 21 October, 2023. The study used both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. Stylistic devices such as metaphor (and its types), repetition, similes, and neologism were analysed. Furthermore, qualitative and quantitative analysis conducted with the use of Sketch Engine aimed to examine the objectivity of the media and their use of persuasion. The theoretical part of the thesis covered theories of stylistics and media objectivity. Additionally, it included an overview of the communication schema and definitions of stylistic devices. The theoretical part also aimed to outline the frameworks of objectivity and the use of persuasion. Finally, the conclusions of the thesis were added to confirm the alignment of the findings with the theoretical part of the work. The thesis confirmed the use of persuasive techniques and the difference in the use of stylistic devices depending on the medias’ political bias.
dc.abstract.pl	Głównym celem pracy licencjackiej była analiza opisu wyborów parlamentarnych w Polsce, które odbyły się 15 października 2023 roku, przez wybrane brytyjskie media – The Guardian, BBC oraz The Telegraph. Do analizy wybrane zostały artykuły opublikowane w internecie między 15 a 21 października 2023. Badanie w pracy oparte było na analizie jakościowej oraz ilościowej. Przeanalizowane zostały środki stylistyczne takie jak metafora (oraz jej typy), powtórzenie, porównanie i neologizm. Co więcej, analiza jakościowa oraz analiza ilościowa przeprowadzona za pomocą Sketch Engine miały wykazać stopień obiektywności mediów oraz użycie przez nie perswazji. W pracy opisane zostały teorie dotyczące stylistyki oraz obiektywności mediów. Dodatkowo w części teoretycznej przybliżony został schemat komunikacji, a także definicje środków stylistycznych. Część teoretyczna pracy miała również za zadanie przybliżenie ram obiektywizmu oraz stosowania perswazji. Na końcu pracy dodane zostały wnioski, które miały potwierdzić zgodność wyników analizy z częścią teoretyczną pracy. W niniejszej pracy potwierdzono zastosowanie technik perswazyjnych i zróżnicowanie środków stylistycznych w zależności od strony sceny politycznej zajmowanej przez media.
