Translation Challenges in the Subtitling Process: An Analysis Based on the Polish Translation of the Series “Ozark”

dc.abstract.en	The following work, Translation Challenges in the Subtitling Process: An Analysis Based on the Polish Translation of the Series Ozark, addresses the issue of subtitling from English into Polish. The first chapter focuses on the translation process in its broadest sense. The author presents the most common approaches in translation studies, as well as the theoretical framework and translation techniques that form the foundation of the core analysis. The next section outlines the historical background and specifics of audiovisual translation as a particular type of translation, with special emphasis on subtitles and the challenges associated with their proper implementation. The methodology of the study is then described, including the corpus and the rationale behind its selection. Finally, the author conducts an analysis of the Polish translation of the series Ozark. The translation strategies used in the process are identified, along with the influence of linguistic, cultural, and technical factors on the application of each of them.
dc.abstract.pl	Poniższa praca Wyzwania tłumaczeniowe przy procesie tworzenia napisów: analiza na podstawie polskiego tłumaczenia serialu „Ozark” podejmuje problematykę tłumaczenia napisów z języka angielskiego na język polski. Rozdział pierwszy skupia się na procesie tłumaczenia w jego szerokim ujęciu. Autor przedstawia najbardziej powszechne nurty translatoryki, a także bazę teoretyczną i techniki tłumaczeniowe stanowiące podstawę właściwej części badania. W dalszej kolejności przybliżony zostaje zarys historyczny oraz specyfika tłumaczeń audiowizualnych jako konkretnego typu tłumaczeń, ze szczególnym wyróżnieniem napisów oraz ich trudności związanych z ich poprawną implementacją. Następnie opisano metodologię badania, w tym korpus oraz argumentację stojącą za jego wyborem. Na koniec autor przeprowadził analizę polskiego tłumaczenia serialu „Ozark”. Zidentyfikowano strategie tłumaczeniowe wykorzystane w procesie tłumaczenia, a także wpływ czynników lingwistycznych, kulturowych oraz technicznych na zastosowanie poszczególnych z nich.
