Strategie radzenia sobie z uzależnieniem od alkoholu w narracjach autobiograficznych członków AA – analiza historii zawartych w „Wielkiej Księdze Anonimowych Alkoholików”.

This master’s thesis concerns coping strategies in alcohol addiction as presented in the autobiographical narratives of members of the Alcoholics Anonymous Fellowship. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the way in which the authors of selected stories included in the book Alcoholics Anonymous describe their own experiences related to the development of addiction, crisis, and the recovery process. The theoretical part discusses the definitions, mechanisms, and determinants of alcohol addiction, as well as its consequences and the process of recovery. It also presents the concept of coping strategies, the significance of crises and turning points, and the role of the Alcoholics Anonymous Fellowship, the Twelve Step Programme, the support group, and the sponsor in the process of achieving sobriety. The author’s own research was qualitative in nature and was conducted using the method of content analysis of autobiographical narratives. The research material consisted of ten selected stories of people addicted to alcohol. The analysis was organised around five categories: the circumstances of encountering the alcohol problem, the path to addiction, the consequences of drinking, the turning point in the recovery process, and the significance of the AA Fellowship. The results of the analysis show that, in the examined narratives, alcohol initially often served as an apparent coping strategy for dealing with problems. Over time, it led to a loss of control, a deepening crisis, and the disorganisation of many areas of life. The recovery process was associated with acknowledging the problem, seeking support, participating in AA, working on oneself, rebuilding relationships, and helping others. The thesis indicates that overcoming addiction may be understood as a process of learning a new way of life, based on responsibility, relationships, and the gradual reconstruction of one’s own identity.
Z czasem prowadził do utraty kontroli, pogłębiania kryzysu i dezorganizacji wielu obszarów życia.
