Nasilenie mocnych stron charakteru oraz nierównowaga w ich używaniu aperfekcjonizm adaptacyjny i dezadaptacyjny - analiza zależności liniowych i krzywoliniowych

dc.abstract.en	This thesis examines the relationships between the intensity of character strengths and the level of their use, and two forms of perfectionism: adaptive and maladaptive. The literature suggests potential associations between character strengths, their use, and perfectionism; however, empirical evidence remains limited. The aim of the study was to examine the correlation between the intensity of character strengths and two forms of perfectionism, as well as the linear and curvilinear relationships between the level of use of selected character strengths and forms of perfectionism. The study employed the VIA-72 Inventory, the KPAD Perfectionism Questionnaire, and the GMI Questionnaire, which, with the author’s permission, was translated into Polish and culturally adapted for the purposes of this research, constituting an additional methodological contribution of the thesis. The sample consisted of 138 participants of varying ages and educational backgrounds. Correlation analyses indicated that adaptive perfectionism was positively associated with the intensity of selected character strengths, particularly Perseverance and Hope, whereas maladaptive perfectionism tended to show negative associations with the intensity of character strengths. A key component of the study was hierarchical regression analysis, which revealed significant linear relationships and, in some cases, significant curvilinear relationships between the level of character strengths use and the two forms of perfectionism. An inverted U-shaped relationship was identified between adaptive perfectionism and the use of Zest, Bravery, and strengths in the life domains of work and goals. This finding suggests the existence of a threshold beyond which further increases in the use of these strengths are associated with a decline in adaptive perfectionism. In contrast, U-shaped relationships were found between maladaptive perfectionism and the use of Bravery and Creativity. An important finding is that the turning point at which the use of character strengths loses its beneficial character occurs earlier for maladaptive perfectionism than for adaptive perfectionism. The results suggest that the adaptive or maladaptive nature of perfectionism is largely determined by the ability to maintain balance in the use of character strengths. The application of the Polish adaptation of the GMI Questionnaire made it possible to demonstrate that some of these relationships are curvilinear in nature, providing new insights into the mechanisms underlying perfectionism.

Literatura przedmiotu przedstawia przesłanki o związkach między nasileniem mocnych stron charakteru i poziomem używania mocnych stron charakteru a perfekcjonizmem, choć są to nieliczne źródła empiryczne. Celem pracy było zbadanie korelacji pomiędzy nasileniem mocnych stron charakteru i dwiema formami perfekcjonizmu, a także związków liniowych i krzywoliniowych między poziomem używania wybranych mocnych stron charakteru a formami perfekcjonizmu. Badanie przeprowadzono za pomocą kwestionariusza VIA-72, kwestionariusza perfekcjonizmu KPAD oraz kwestionariusza GMI. Ten ostatni został przetłumaczony na język polski na potrzeby tego badania za zgodą autora, co stanowi dodatkowy wkład metodologiczny pracy. W badaniu wzięło udział 138 osób, zróżnicowanych wiekowo i deklarujących różny poziom wykształcenia. Analiza korelacji wykazała, że perfekcjonizm adaptacyjny wiąże się dodatnio z nasileniem wybranych mocnych stron (najsilniej z Wytrwałością i Nadzieją), podczas gdy perfekcjonizm dezadaptacyjny wykazuje raczej związki ujemne z nasileniem mocnych stron charakteru. Kluczowym elementem pracy była analiza regresji hierarchicznej, która ujawniła istotne zależności liniowe oraz w niektórych przypadkach, istotne zależności krzywoliniowe między poziomem używania mocnych stron charakteru a dwiema formami perfekcjonizmu. Relacja w kształcie odwróconej litery „U” ukazała się w przypadku perfekcjonizmu adaptacyjnego z Zapałem, Odwagą oraz kontekstami życiowymi: pracy i celów. Sugeruje to istnienie punktu granicznego, gdy dalszy wzrost poziomu używania tych mocnych stron wiąże się ze spadkiem perfekcjonizmu adaptacyjnego. Z kolei w przypadku perfekcjonizmu dezadaptacyjnego, zidentyfikowano zależności w kształcie litery U dla Odwagi i Kreatywności. Interesującym odkryciem jest wynik wskazujący, że punkt zwrotny, po którym poziom używania mocnych stron traci swój pozytywny charakter, przypada wcześniej dla perfekcjonizmu dezadaptacyjnego niż dla adaptacyjnego. Wyniki niniejszej pracy pokazują, że o adaptacyjnym lub dezadaptacyjnym charakterze perfekcjonizmu decyduje w dużej mierze umiejętność zachowania równowagi w używaniu mocnych stron charakteru. Zastosowanie polskiej adaptacji narzędzia GMI pozwoliło pokazać, że niektóre relacje mają charakter krzywoliniowy, co rzuca nowe światło na mechanizmy perfekcjonizmu.
