An Analysis of Intertextual Elements in Selected Songs of Bob Dylan

dc.abstract.en	The aim of this thesis is to analyse intertextual elements in selected songs of Bob Dylan. The analysis concerns only those intertextual elements that refer to other literary works. Furthermore, this paper aims to observe how often the singer uses intertextuality, which forms of intertextuality are typically adopted, and what is the purpose of their use. The theoretical part of this study focuses on explaining what intertextuality is and what its types are. Since the notion of intertextuality regularly appears in discussions of Critical Discourse Analysis, separate sections concentrate on concepts such as discourse, discourse analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis. One separate section is devoted to a discussion of whether song lyrics can be seen as literary texts. The practical section provides the analysis of intertextual elements in selected songs of Bob Dylan, which made it possible to identify the most common functions of intertextual elements. The selected songs from different periods of the musician’s career are analysed in chronological order and, as a result, an increase in the frequency of the use of intertextual elements was also observed.
dc.abstract.pl	Tematem niniejszej pracy jest analiza elementów intertekstualnych w wybranych piosenkach Boba Dylana. Praca ta skupia się na analizie tylko tych elementów intertekstualnych, które nawiązują do innych dzieł literackich. Ponadto celem tej analizy jest również zaobserwowanie, jak często piosenkarz korzysta z intertekstualności, jakie formy elementów intertekstualnych najczęściej wybiera oraz jaki jest cel ich użycia. Część teoretyczna tej pracy skupia się na wyjaśnieniu, czym jest intertekstualność i jakie są jej rodzaje. Z racji, iż pojęcie intertekstualności często pojawia się w dyskusjach dotyczących Krytycznej Analizy Dyskursu, osobne podrozdziały koncentrują się na pojęciach takich jak dyskurs, analiza dyskursu oraz Krytyczna Analiza Dyskursu. Jeden osobny podrozdział został poświęcony dyskusji, czy tekst piosenki może być postrzegany jako dzieło literackie. Część praktyczna skupia się na analizie elementów intertekstualnych w wybranych piosenkach Boba Dylana, co umożliwiło rozpoznanie najczęstszych funkcji elementów intertekstualnych. Wybrane piosenki, które pochodzą z różnych okresów twórczości muzyka, są analizowane chronologicznie, dzięki czemu zaobserwowany został również wzrost częstości występowania elementów intertekstualnych.
