Przetrwanie prymitywu i kryzys nowoczesności. Znaczenie empatii i patosu w sztuce Billa Violi zinterpretowanej metodą Aby'ego Warburga
| dc.abstract.en | The objective of this thesis is to analyze the work of video artist Bill Viola (b. 1951) from 1973 to 2002, as well as his writings and interviews during this period, primarily collected in the publication Bill Viola. Reasons For Knocking On An Empty House. Writings 1973-1994. The analysis focuses on a specific motif named the Primitive, which represents imaginary values and features located in the pre-modern past and non-European cultures. The research method used includes the notions of Nachleben, Pathosformel, and Denkraum developed by German art historian Aby Warburg (1866–1929). Other theories from Warburg's research essays, such as the theory of empathy (Einfühlung) and his anthropological reflections on culture, explored in his 1923 essay on Images from the Region of the Pueblo Indians of North America, are also utilized to investigate Viola's oeuvre. |
| dc.abstract.pl | Przedmiotem rozprawy doktorskiej jest twórczość amerykańskiego artysty wideo Billa Violi (ur. 1951) z lat 1973–2002 oraz jego pisma o sztuce i wywiady z tego okresu, zebrane m.in. w publikacji Bill Viola. Reasons for Knocking at an Empty House. Writings 1973-1994. Nie jest to analiza wszystkich dzieł i tekstów artysty, a raczej próba prześledzenia dominującego w nich motywu, nazwanego w tej pracy „prymitywem” (the Primitive), który przedstawiony został jako zbiór wyobrażonych wartości i cech, głównie pozytywnych, lokowanych przez artystów i teoretyków w przednowoczesności i kulturach pozaeuropejskich. Jako metodę badawczą zastosowano pojęcia pochodzące z teorii niemieckiego historyka sztuki Aby’ego Warburga (1866–1929): Nachleben, Pathosformel i Denkraum oraz inne elementy jego badań, takie jak teoria empatii (Einfühlung) czy też antropologiczne rozważania nad kulturą opisane w wykładzie Obrazy z terytorium Indian Pueblo w Ameryce Północnej z 1923. |
